Brunel has published its Climate Change Progress Report 2025, demonstrating how we continued to deliver against our climate strategy, develop our reporting, and achieve significant reductions in our exposures.

In 2024, the carbon intensity of the Brunel Aggregate Portfolio was 60% lower than our 2019 baseline. Furthermore, the reserves intensity of the Brunel Aggregate Portfolio was down by 93%.

Climate change is still a universal, systemic risk – one that investors cannot afford to ignore. It is enormously important that asset owners set out a clear climate strategy. We hope Brunel’s exceptional progress across 2024 encourages others in the industry to make similar progress.

This year’s reporting shares disclosure rates for both scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, an enhancement on previous years. 100% of the companies in our UK Equity portfolio are now fully or partially disclosing carbon data.

Scope 2 emissions include indirect emissions, such as purchased electricity, and around 85% of our holdings (by value) now have Scope 2 emissions reported on (either fully or partially). This, in turn, is driving change within the industry, requiring more enhanced disclosure than previously available.

Implementing our climate change policy is not just about ticking boxes or demonstrating progress. Everything we do is designed to make real-world change and we work hard to maximise the impact on our world. We focus on systemic change because although it can be slow, it allows for the most widespread impact and real-world change.  We have high expectations for our stakeholders and use our influence to ensure they, as well as we, go further than simply meeting regulatory minimums.

Brunel uses a range of climate metrics to maximise our impact and progress, and to ensure we can analyse and improve. You can find out more about these metrics by watching the videos, or reading our explanations on our Climate-related Metrics page

To see what the real-world impact of our policies and engagement, why not read some of the case studies dotted throughout the report.
