Brunel has won the award for Place-based Impact Investing and the Environment Agency Pension Fund has won the awards for Impact Investing Adopter and for Paris Alignment Award – Best Climate Governance and Strategy Statement at the Pensions for Purpose Annual Awards.

In a ceremony held at Haberdashers’ Hall in The City of London, Brunel Pension Partnership was named as the recipient of the award for its work developing and launching the Cornwall Local Impact portfolio, the first multi-asset local impact portfolio across the LGPS.

“Pensions for Purpose is a crucial enabler and network provider for investors ambitious to accelerate the rise of impact investing,” said Laura Chappell, CEO at Brunel. “Brunel values our award very highly, as it recognises both Cornwall Pension Fund’s ambition and Brunel’s capacity to deliver. It also helps give publicity to the possibilities of impact investing at local level – something we want to see grow across the LGPS.”

The EAPF was recognised for its leadership on both impact and Paris Alignment. The judges cited EAPF’s integration of impact in all they do; and their standard-setting approach on Paris alignment progress.

“The EAPF has always been striving to push the possibilities of climate investing and is a very worthy winner,” said Denise Le Gal, Chair of Brunel Pension Partnership. “We value our partnership with them very highly and look forward to all we can achieve together in the future.”

Cornwall Local Impact portfolio

Brunel’s own award represented the local impact portfolio it launched in 2022. The portfolio is the result of Cornwall Pension Fund’s ambition to create a local impact portfolio for its members to be invested in – one that targeted two of the county’s principal challenges: climate change and affordable housing. Launched in 2022, the portfolio comprises three sleeves:

  • Affordable Housing in Cornwall via PGIM Real Estate
  • Renewables in Cornwall via Schroders Greencoat
  • Renewables in the UK via Schroders Greencoat

The Place-Based Impact Investing Award was given by Pensions for Purpose and the Good Economy, and sponsored by Resonance.
