We are delighted to report that Brunel has won the ‘Investment Team of the Year – Asset Owner’ category at Environmental Finance’s IMPACT Awards 2021.

The award is an endorsement of the expertise, productivity and thought leadership of Brunel’s investment team. We have now launched 14 listed markets funds and two cycles of Private Markets investments, and our Responsible Investment principles have been woven into the entire investment process.

“Our investment team can point to an extraordinary year, in which it has continued to launch one market-leading fund after another, despite the challenges posed bv COVID and lockdown,” said Laura Chappell, CEO at Brunel. “We have great respect for Environmental Finance and this award is therefore a real badge of honour, capping an exceptional period of delivery and growth for our clients.”

Brunel’s Investment team is our largest team. It comprises our listed markets team, headed by David Cox; our private markets team, headed by Richard Fanshawe, and our responsible investment team, headed by Faith Ward. Overall responsibility falls to David Vickers, chief investment officer. In the past year, the team has launched three new fixed income portfolios, a private debt portfolio, a cycle 2 infrastructure portfolio, and three equity portfolios.

“I am immensely proud of all the team has achieved over this fast-paced period,” said David Vickers. “Nevertheless, this has also been a much broader achievement for all of Brunel, with every team enabling these products to launch, in concert with our clients.”

The team has also enabled Brunel to facilitate the launch of the IIGCC’s Net Zero Investment Framework, to sign up to the framework itself, and to work with FTSE Russell to launch a new suite of climate indices.

“Principles of responsible investment are embedded in 100% of what Brunel does, from fund design to manager selection and monitoring, to our close involvement in the recent launch of the Diversity Charter,” said Vickers. “It is wonderful to see the team’s investment ambitions recognised in this way.”

Full listings for the Environmental Finance IMPACT Awards 2021 are available on the EF website, as is a further write-up of Brunel’s award win.

Earlier this year, Faith Ward, Chief Responsible Investment Officer at Brunel, was named ‘Personality of the Year‘ at the Environmental Finance Awards
