2020 has been a year of challenge and reward. During turbulent economic times, our partnership’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth for our clients has remained central. Wonderfully, this commitment was recognised earlier this month, in the form of several industry awards.
The resounding success of our clients across the board at the LAPF Investments Awards was one of the most rewarding parts of the 2020 awards season. The EAPF was named Pension Fund of the Year at the Europe-wide IPE awards. At the UK’s LAPF Awards, meanwhile, the EAPF scooped ‘Best Approach to Sustainable Investing’ and Cornwall Pension Fund was named ‘LGPS Fund of the Year.’ Three of our managers – Invesco, Baillie Gifford and BlackRock, were also honoured with LAPF awards.
We were also delighted to see that Sean Collins, Manager of Oxford Pension Fund, was shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution, following our nomination. It is the least he deserves.
In the Europe-wide IPE Awards, Brunel was up for three categories. We were delighted to have won in the competitive ESG and Climate-Related Risk Management categories for our active approach to engagement, carbon-footprint management and policy. We were also highly commended for our Factor Investing strategy. Investing in a world worth living in is at the heart of everything we do, so these accolades mean an enormous amount to us.
We were also shortlisted at the LAPF Investments Award for Collaboration, Investment Innovation and Pool of the Year. As one of Brunel’s Responsible Investment Pillars, we were especially pleased to be recognised in the Collaboration category, which we consider critical to maximise the impact of our core investment strategy.
Other highlights included seeing our very own Sofia Deambrosi, Investment Principal nominated as a Rising Star for 2020. She recently managed the launch of Brunel’s Cycle 2 Sustainable Infrastructure fund, and she is now somewhere in the East Atlantic in a race across the ocean with three friends. The Bristol Gulls are participating in the race to raise awareness of ocean pollution awareness and drowning prevention.
I’m inspired by the scale of achievement from our clients, managers, partners and the internal team. As we approach the end of a tough year, we’re very proud of the progress our broader partnership has made this year. A high bar has been set for 2021!
