Biodiversity & nature: Carrefour (EOS), biodiversity impact and dependency assessment

Since 2008, EOS has been driving transformative engagement with Carrefour, one of France’s leading retailers, on its biodiversity impacts. In 2022, EOS sharpened its focus, urging Carrefour to measure and manage key impacts to set clear improvement milestones, from raw ingredient sourcing to deforestation and water use. Carrefour responded by enhancing its disclosure practices. In early 2024, Carrefour published its universal registration document, outlining its biodiversity footprint across its value chain and highlighting significant pressures in regions like Brazil and France. Looking ahead, the company has reassured EOS that targets based on the Science Based Targets for Nature methodology will be published before the end of the year.
