Corporate Financial Controller

This role is an unrivalled opportunity for an ambitious and driven individual who wants to be at the centre of a growing investment company and work with a likeminded team in the creation of a best-in-class corporate finance function.  Partnering closely with the Head of Finance, this is a key role which will be responsible for the design, oversight, delivery and continual improvement of the financial reporting framework, along with managing a small team with the responsibility for statutory and internal reporting, including preparation of the Annual Reports & Accounts and management account process.

This role will support the continued delivery of an exceptional service and build out the team as a key business partner.  The primary function of the role is to take responsibility for improving the overall control environment; and to ensure appropriate financial controls are in place.  Brunel has also recently invested in its new financial system (NetSuite) and, although at the start of its journey, this system forms the cornerstone for its developing its  risk and control framework.

With a detailed knowledge of an FC- regulated environment, this role will involve financial leadership of the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process, FCA returns, Statutory Accounts, VAT and Corporate taxes and auditor liaison.

In addition, the role will develop the corporate budget and business plans, updating the business case review and be responsible for client invoicing and the development of services pricing in line with Brunel’s Pricing Policy.

The role will lead a team of three posts (two Management Accountants and one part-time Finance Administrator), ensuring that the month-end balance sheet is completed properly, free from errors and providing the review, challenge, and assurance for all financial reporting to the Executive Committee and the Board.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of high-quality financial management information (including Business Plan, Business Case reviews) to Head of Finance, COO, Exec Committee and Board
  • Delivery of Pricing Policy via robust, auditable approach for reallocation of costs to relevant cost centres, projects and investment portfolios
  • Maintenance of accounting framework in line with RCSAs and Brunel risk appetite
  • Financial administration of Brunel’s financial systems (e.g. Netsuite)
  • Reporting & monitoring of Brunel’s regulatory capital and liquidity position, updates to ICAAP/ICARA, ownership of financial input to Investment Firm Prudential Regime reporting
  • Development and delivery of all Brunel’s internal and external financial reporting
  • Leadership across business solutions, tax, internal capital adequacy education
  • Support to two Management Accountants, Finance Administrator, and HR
  • Cover for Head of Finance in latter’s absence

Skills & Experience

  • Leadership of management accounting team, external financial reporting and well-audited, controlled financial frameworks
  • Appreciation of control and risk frameworks at an FCA-regulated company
  • Accounting qualification with 10+ years PQE (ACA , ACCA, ACMA)
  • Excellent knowledge of financial management reporting and KPIs
  • Deals pragmatically with complex problems and works well with project structures
  • Strong communicator who can build relationships quickly, instil confidence, coach others, and influence senior management
